Her leadership as JLSA Vice President and President from 1986-88 solidified her position as a strategic planner, adept organizer, and an inspiring force within the League.

Beyond the Junior League, Gladys extended her impact into the broader San Antonio community.  Her involvement with the Bexar County Children’s Shelter, Juvenile Detention Center, and Boysville Summer Camp showcased her dedication to addressing child abuse and neglect.  She served on influential boards, such as the San Antonio Coalition of Children Youth and Families, the Texas Commission on Juvenile Justice, and the Governor’s Conference on Child Abuse.

Gladys’s commitment to education shines through her 25 years of teaching, culminating in her role as an Elementary Math Curriculum Instructional Specialist for the Northeast Independent School District. Her leadership in empowering math teachers earned her recognition from the Texas Education Agency and the Charles A. Dana Center at the University of Texas at Austin.

In addition to her educational endeavors, Gladys played pivotal roles in community organizations such as the Southwest Foundation Forum, the San Antonio Symphony Junior Committee, and the Charity Ball Association. Her financial acumen, sound judgment, and dedication to community service were evident during her tenure as Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair on the Charity Ball Association Board.

Gladys’s impact extends beyond her professional and community service; her mentorship has shaped the lives of many. A nurturing figure, Gladys has provided guidance and opportunities to women in the non-profit sector for over 40 years.

Gladys is dedicated to her family. She and her husband of 54 years, Mike Montgomery, have two sons and three grandchildren.  Her commitment to Christ Episcopal Church, including the Altar Guild and the Altar Flowers Ministry, further exemplifies her service to others.
